On October 8, communities across the country will come together for the third annual DAF Day, a national day dedicated to unlocking charitable dollars through donor-advised funds (DAFs). This year's theme is “Move Billions, Faster.”

At the Banner Health Foundation, we're proud to be part of this movement to mobilize the more than $326 billion in charitable assets that are held in donor-advised funds across the country. These dollars have already been set aside for giving, and DAF Day is the moment we move it—deliberately, electronically, and together.

Interested in learning more about DAFs?

  • A donor-advised fund is a dedicated charitable giving account that lets you make irrevocable contributions, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants to qualified nonprofits over time. It streamlines and organizes your giving into one easy-to-manage account.
  • Donor-advised funds are established at a sponsoring organization that’s a 501(c)(3) public charity, including national sponsors and community foundations. The sponsor legally holds, manages, and administers the donor-advised fund.
  • It’s one of the most tax-advantaged ways to support causes and organizations close to your heart, as gifts to a public charity receive the most favorable tax treatment under IRS rules. Because donor-advised funds are quick and easy to establish, there’s still time to open a DAF at a sponsoring organization and participate in DAF Day on October 8.
