Daniel, 11, visited an emergency department in May for nausea and abdominal pain, where a mass was discovered in his abdomen, pelvis, and chest. Daniel was transferred to Banner Children’s at Diamond Children’s Medical Center and was diagnosed just a few weeks later with stage III Burkitt’s Lymphoma, an aggressive cancer that may doubles in size every 24 hours.

Daniel completed treatment in September and the cancer is now in remission. Daniel has been able to keep up with his online schooling and is looking forward to joining his classmates in person. He’s a gymnast who placed 1st in the parallel-bar event at the Arizona State Gymnastics Meet last year and his father credits his gymnastics training for his strength and resiliency during cancer treatment and recovery.

When first diagnosed, Daniel’s family investigated the best pediatric cancer hospitals throughout the country and they found peace of mind knowing that Diamond Children’s is part of the Children’s Oncology Group, known for excellence and quality in cancer care for children. The family is grateful for the expertise and resources provided in Tucson at Diamond Children’s and its partnership with the University of Arizona, which ensures that research advances are available to Banner patients.

Children like Daniel – and so many others – will benefit from the Banner – University Medicine El Tour de Tucson, as Diamond Children’s is the grateful beneficiary of this year’s event to be held on November 20.

El Tour de Tucson
