JERRE AND MARY JOY STEAD
Since opening in 2006, the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Phoenix has received international recognition as a Center of Excellence, revolutionizing the standard of care for Alzheimer’s and related dementia.
Now, Banner Health is committed to expanding the Institute’s comprehensive care model to Southern Arizona, where a fragmented system of dementia care is failing to adequately serve the needs of the area’s aging population. BAI - Tucson will be a change maker for the region, providing comprehensive medical and non-medical care and giving hope to patients and families.
World-Class Care for all of Arizona
Because this expansion relies on significant philanthropic support, Jerre and Mary Joy Stead will match every $5 gift to the BAI Stead Family Matching Challenge with $1, up to $600,000.
Nearly 73,000 cases of Alzheimer’s and related dementia are predicted in the Tucson area in 2018—a figure expected to increase as the population ages. A 53.8% projected increase in Arizona seniors with the disease is expected before 2025.
Caring for an Alzheimer’s patient costs three times that of a patient without dementia—most of it not reimbursable by insurance. In addition to patient care, BAI offers a range of supportive services, educational programs and community outreach, all designed to treat the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of the disease for patients and their care partners.
We are grateful to the Toole family for their lead gift to make BAI - Tucson a reality. Now, you can help to begin building this much-needed resource with a gift to the BAI Stead Family Matching Challenge that will be matched, thanks to the generosity of Jerre and Mary Joy Stead. There are several ways to make your gift:
