Bashas’ partners with Banner Health Foundation to support mobile mammography

10/03/2022

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Bashas’ Family of Stores has once again partnered with the Banner Health Foundation to support The Big Pink Bus, a mobile unit that will bring 3D mammography to women in outlying areas of the Valley. Customers at Maricopa County Bashas’ and Food City stores can support this effort by donating at the cash register and/or buying a case of Bashas’ pink-labeled water bottles.

Mobile mammography brings life-saving diagnostic care to communities that may lack nearby access, education and information, or transportation. The availability of a mammogram that “comes to you” increases screening rates among all women by minimizing disruption to their professional and personal obligations. The Big Pink Bus will be scheduled 200 days in the community, with 20 mammograms per day, reaching approximately 4,000 women in the first year.

Women who choose mobile mammography can expect the same exceptional patient care they would experience at one of Banner MD Anderson’s breast imaging locations. Scheduling, testing, follow-up, and referrals will be seamless, and patients will have expedited access to Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center’s specialized breast oncologists and surgeons. All mammograms are interpreted by specifically trained radiologists, and all Banner MD Anderson radiologists are faculty at the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Banner Health Foundation is grateful for Bashas’ commitment to breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. To help get the wheels on The Big Pink Bus, donate online.
