Junior Host Austin joined the fun by copying the wardrobe sported by former NHL left winger Tyson Nash and Mathew Blades, iHeart Media’s Mix 96.9 morning radio show host, who served as the emcee for the 2019 Banner Children's Open. View more photos from the event.

Banner Children's Child Life programs

Child Life Specialists volunteered their time in support of the 2019 Banner Children's Open, holding highly prized positions as hecklers for two of the holes at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Wildfire Golf Club.

Creating a positive experience for hospitalized children is the foundation of Child Life at Banner Children’s medical facilities. Working with pediatric patients and families, Child Life Specialists use a variety of tools and skills to reduce stress and anxiety, while promoting normal growth and development. Through play, pre-operative teaching and even distraction and coping techniques, these specialized professionals become invaluable resources for the entire family.

The junior emcee for the Banner Children's Open, Austin is a living example of why the Banner Children's Child Life programs matter.

Because Austin is on the autism spectrum, physical therapy at Cardon Children's Medical Center has helped with struggles related to everyday skills like putting on clothes and getting in and out of vehicles.

Sinking it for the Challenge Prize

“Autism makes simple things hard and hard things simple,” according to Austin. “Sometimes, I have a hard time when I need to choose between something I have to do and something I want to do.”

Then, with a twinkle in his eye Austin adds, “But, I can also learn all about cars more quickly than even adults can!”

The Challenge Prize: Disneyland *

Each player on the Challenge Prize winning foursome received four one-day, one-park passes to Disneyland and 50,000 American Airline miles.

Once again, that privilege went to the Wholesale Floors foursome.

Raffle Prize: Trip for two to Cabo *

When junior emcee Austin pulled the winning ticket for the Raffle Prize, it was Michael Kalsek whose ticket held the right numbers for the trip for two to Cabo San Lucas, with American Airlines flights and hotel accommodations for seven days!
