his $500,000 matching gift to establish
the Hematology Research Fund.
The Banner Health Foundation is pleased to announce a matching gift opportunity to support cancer research at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in the area of blood cancer clinical trials. Some 1.3 million Americans are living with a blood cancer: lymphoma, leukemia, or multiple myeloma.
To advance promising research in this area, multiple myeloma survivor and grateful patient R. W. Considine has generously committed a $500,000 matching gift to establish the first Hematology Research Fund at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Donor gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar, for a total of $1 million to expand these clinical trials.
Patients who participate in clinical trials gain access to the best and newest treatments available. And, trial participants help others who will benefit from the findings in the future. Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center is building an extensive clinical research portfolio and advanced cancer therapeutics, with the goal of being the location where patients have the best possible chance for a cure.
Banner MD Anderson’s hematology oncology program sees the highest volume of patients, second only to its breast cancer program. The Considine Hematology Research Fund will expand trials of blood cancer therapies right here in Arizona, including the promising CAR T-cell immunotherapy trial targeting lymphoma, and support efforts to make these trials more accessible to patients.
An estimated 170,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma this year—accounting for 10 percent of new cancers.
