Banner Alzheimer’s Institute recently welcomed memory care expert and researcher Jeremy Pruzin, MD, MHI, to the team. He is no stranger to BAI, having volunteered as a medical assistant in the memory clinic from 2009 to 2010.
Dr. Pruzin is board certified in neurology and received his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University, Chicago Medical School. He completed his residency in neurology at Rush University Medical Center and a fellowship in cognitive behavioral neurology at Harvard/Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He also has a Master’s in Healthcare Innovation from Arizona State University.
“I grew up in Arizona but have been away for quite some time,” said Dr. Pruzin. “After spending time in Santa Barbara, Madrid, Chicago, Medellin, and, most recently, Boston, I am excited to be returning home to the place that gave me my start, this time as a behavioral neurologist.”
Dr. Pruzin was eager to return to BAI because of its world-renowned Alzheimer’s and dementia care and its unique Family and Community Services programming. In addition to his work treating patients in the clinic, he is looking forward to conducting his own research. His goal is to develop a program to study whether lifestyle changes in middle age may delay the onset of dementia.
“The adult children of my patients often ask what they can do to prevent their own memory and thinking problems,” said Dr. Pruzin. “It’s a great opportunity to talk with them about lifestyle changes that might have an impact such as intensive blood pressure control, physical activity, diet, social interaction and so much more.”
To help him get started, Dr. Pruzin received a grant in 2020 from WISH (Women Investing in Science and Health) to build an online health risk assessment allowing people to assess their risk factors for dementia. WISH is an affinity group of women who, in partnership with Banner Health, raise philanthropic support and awareness for areas of health care important to women and their families. Members pool their gifts and decide together annually how to invest their funds in Banner programs.
Welcome Dr. Pruzin to Banner Alzheimer’s Institute!
