Banner's Fetal Care Center performs surgery in the womb

Banner – University Medicine Fetal Care Center performed the state’s first fetal surgery in February 2024. The in utero surgery was a delicate spina bifida repair on a fetus in the 25th week of pregnancy.

Banner Thunderbird Medical Center recently announced a new member of the medical team – Gumby, a Facility Dog. Unlike Therapy Dogs, Facility Dogs play a specific role in a patient's coping and treatment plan, providing comfort, motivation, and distraction during medical procedures.

Banner Health Foundation gratefully acknowledges Sonora Quest Laboratories for their support of the Valley Fever Center for Excellence and an emerging pilot program known as the Middle Age Brain Clinic. A joint initiative of Banner – University Medicine and the UA College of Medicine in Tucson, the Valley Fever Center fosters education, research and best clinical practices with the goal of addressing problems caused by the fungus, Coccidioides, the cause of Valley Fever.
