The University of Arizona Department of Surgery invites you to attend the 2025 Research Symposium, bringing together faculty, project scientists, residents, research fellows, post-doctoral scholars, and medical students who are interested in our research enterprise. This year’s invited keynote speaker is Alan W. Flake, M.D., FACS, FAAP. Notably, Dr. Flake was a pioneer in investigating in utero stem cell transplantation (IUSCT) for treating genetic disorders, achieving significant hematopoietic chimerism in pre-clinical models. Dr. Flake's research focuses on prenatal treatment, including fetal surgical repair of anatomical anomalies and prenatal stem cell and gene therapy. He has extensive experience in developing models for in utero transplantation and fetal surgery for malformations. His research also explores in utero gene therapy, assessing various vectors and their therapeutic efficacy.
