Banner Health Foundation is proud to announce the appointment of Alison Lewis as Chairman of the Board. Lewis brings a distinguished career spanning law, business, and philanthropy to her new leadership role, where she will guide the Foundation's 30-member volunteer board in advancing Banner Health's mission through philanthropic giving.

"Alison's deep commitment to serving diverse and underserved populations, combined with her extensive nonprofit leadership experience, makes her an exceptional choice to lead our Foundation board," said Adam Goodman, immediate past chairman. "Her passion for making health care easier aligns perfectly with Banner Health's mission."

A career dedicated to service

Lewis describes her current work as a philanthropist focused on education and the arts in Arizona's Valley of the Sun as her "third and favorite career." Her journey began in the legal profession, where she broke barriers as the first female partner at the law firm of Teilborg, Sanders and Parks. For 19 years, she specialized in employment and school law, building a reputation for excellence and advocacy.

Following her legal career, Lewis ventured into entrepreneurship as a partner in a small business marketing luxury women's apparel and personal styling. This experience provided valuable insights into business operations and customer relationships that would later inform her philanthropic work.

Deep roots in philanthropy

Today, Lewis manages two family foundations and dedicates her expertise to innovative nonprofit organizations serving diverse populations, with particular emphasis the underserved. Her commitment to Banner Health runs deep—she currently serves as immediate past chair of WISH (Women Investing in Science & Health), Banner's women's affinity group whose mission is to educate women on the most leading edge issues in health care. “It is that education component that I am really passionate about, especially since women make most of the health care decisions for their families,” Alison explains. She and her husband, Craig Krumwiede, have supported several Banner Health programs, most recently the Banner Children’s Community Clinics and Healthmobile, which offer free primary care for uninsured children. “It’s so important to me to help cover the cost of health care for vulnerable kids and families, and we are proud to support Banner’s programs that address this need.”

Extensive Board leadership

Lewis's nonprofit leadership portfolio reflects her diverse interests and commitment to community impact:

  • Scottsdale Arts: Served eight years on the board, including two years as Chair
  • Tonto Creek Camp: Served as a founding board member for this unique outdoor STEM education experience for underserved youth
  • Arizona State University: Her alma mater benefits from her guidance through multiple initiatives, including:
    • Solar SPELL (Solar Powered Digital Learning Library)
    • Women and Philanthropy at Arizona State University: Honorary Co-Chair
    • ASU President's Club member
  • C4 Foundation: Currently serves as Vice Chair, which supports active Navy SEALS and their families

Leading Banner Health Foundation forward

As Chairman of the Board, Lewis will serve a two-year term leading Banner Health Foundation's volunteer board members, who serve as official representatives and ambassadors for Banner Health in the community. The Foundation plays a critical role in supporting Banner Health's mission by engaging donors and directing philanthropic resources to areas of greatest need across Banner's healthcare system.

"Board members are essential partners in our work to make health care easier so life can be better," said Andy Petersen, president and CEO of the Banner Health Foundation. "Alison's leadership will help us strengthen relationships with donors and expand our impact in the communities we serve."

A vision for the future

Lewis's appointment comes at a pivotal time for health care philanthropy, as organizations nationwide work to address growing community needs and health disparities. Her focus on serving underserved populations and her experience with innovative nonprofit models position her well to guide the Foundation's strategic direction.

Her leadership with WISH has already demonstrated her ability to engage donors and build meaningful connections between philanthropists and Banner Health's mission. As Chairman, she will work to expand these efforts across the Foundation's broader donor base.
